THIS is the sneaky reason your allergies became worse in motherhood

I have clear memories of waking up on a beautiful spring morning to the apple tree blooming outside my window. I open the blinds to let in the sun and am met with a cacophony of sneezes from my sister’s allergies. Great. But at least I’m not afflicted I think and carry on with my morning.

I thought maybe it was the curse of motherhood. That something within our shared DNA had altered mine to allergies. Or maybe, the back of mind whispers, it’s payback for the years of fun you poked in her direction. I shake my head and blow my nose some more.

I thought this to be an anomaly, some random happenstance that befell upon me after pregnancy. But alas, it was the hormones again.

As if they didn’t completely change the way I was viewing my body, relationships and life… they also held my body at a level of inflammation that made me more susceptible to seasonal allergies. When our hormones are imbalanced our bodies are on high alert. With cortisol and insulin keeping the immune system active, we experience a lesser ability to defend against other immune attackers. Meaning you may not only be getting seasonal allergies but also finding yourself feeling ill most often.

I will say, there was one summer in my past six years of motherhood where I had my hormones on lock. Like they were all working so well, I was exceeding at anything I put my mind to, it was a beautiful time… and no allergies. It’s not an easy, over the counter fix to your allergies, but in the long term benefits it is rich.

Hormone balancing takes at least three months of consistent action. Not three months to see the benefits, that can happen quickly. But to experience a solid hormonal foundation it takes time. There is nothing more worth it, I promise you.
